Buddy icon - A buddy icon is a small image associated with an Instant messaging (IM) account. AOL Instant Messenger was the first IM program to use Buddy Icons, but now several other popular IM programs do, including MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger.
Buddy profile - Buddy profiles are brief descriptions that each AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) user can write about himself or herself. They are derived from the original AOL Member Profiles, which allowed AOL users to list personal details such as age, sex, and location (a/s/l).
AIM Closed List - An AIM Closed List refers to the option on the AOL Instant Messenger client to allow only users on a screen name's buddy list to contact him/her. This is to prevent harassment or spamming, and is also a secure way to chat with your friends.
AIMLite - AIMLite is a computer program which contains a hacked version of AOL_Instant_Messenger that removes the ads from AIM; it cleans up various parts of the AIM GUI such as the buddy list and conversation windows.
