Texture (crystalline) - In materials science, texture is the property of a material's individual crystallites having nonrandom orientation. It is seen in almost all engineered materials, and has a great influence on material properties.

Polymorphism (materials science) - Polymorphism in materials science is the ability of a solid material to exist in more than one form or crystal structure. Polymorphism can potentially be found in any crystalline material including polymers and metals and is related to allotropy which refers to elemental solids.

Shock hardening - Shock hardening is a process used to strengthen metals and alloys, wherein a shock wave produces atomic-scale defects in the material's crystalline structure. As in cold work, these defects interfere with the normal processes by which metallic materials yield (plasticity), making such materials stronger but more brittle.

Perfect crystal - Crystalline materials (mainly metals and alloys, but also stoichiometric salts and other materials) are made up of solid regions of ordered matter (atoms placed in one of a number of ordered formations called Bravais lattices). These regions are known as crystals.
