Common Riding - Common Riding is a tradition celebrated, usually annually, in towns in the Scottish Borders. Originally a group of horse riders would ride the town or parish boundaries to pass on the knowledge of those boundaries from one generation to the next, and to check the boundary of encroachment by neighbouring settlements.
