List of trans-Neptunian objects - This is a partial list of numbered trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs), in order of discovery date. Certain notable TNOs that have yet to be numbered are also included.
Trans-Neptunian object - A trans-Neptunian object (TNO) is any object in the solar system which orbits the sun at a greater distance on average than Neptune. The Kuiper belt, Scattered disk, and Oort cloud are names for three divisions of this volume of space.
Scattered disc - The scattered disc (or scattered disk) is a distant region of our solar system, thinly populated by icy planetoids known as scattered disk objects (SDOs), a subset of the broader family of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs). The innermost portion of the scattered disc overlaps with the Kuiper belt, but its outer limits extend much farther away from the sun and above and below the ecliptic than the belt proper.
Minor planet - ... but smaller than major planets (Mercury having a diameter of about 4880 km). The term minor planet is sometimes used as a synonym for asteroid though this is technically incorrect; asteroids are one group of minor planets, a category which also includes Trans-Neptunian objects and other small bodies in our solar system and elsewhere.
IAU: Trans-Neptunian Object 2003 UB313 - Re-announces formation of a working group to produce a formal definition of a planet, in conjunction with the announcement of this Trans-Neptunian object larger than Pluto, which will not be named pending a formal definition.
NASA: Is Pluto a Planet or Not? - ... asks the question and is told that at the moment (1999) Pluto has dual status as a planet and a TNO or "Trans-Neptunian Object."
